At this point we have all been affected in some way by the Coronavirus. Restaurants and bars are closing, schools are shut down, and everyone (yes, you too) is being encourage to stay at home as much as possible.
Grocery stores are swamped right now and people are stocking up on non-perishable foods like canned goods, rice and beans, frozen pizzas, and so on. You should definitely have a good supply of foods like this on hand. But we all know eating those foods for a couple weeks can get a bit monotonous. Meat cases are emptying out across the country as well. Here are two pictures posted by friends of mine over the last couple days:
Those two pictures were from two different parts of the country so it isn’t limited to just a few hard hit areas. Grocery stores are having trouble keeping up with demand. Some of it is panic buying but a lot of it is people trying to have a couple weeks worth of food if they do need to stay home.
So if you are supposed to stay at home and the grocery stores are out of food how are people supposed to get meat? Well, delivery trucks are still running and there are some great options to get very high quality meat delivered to your door that is better than what you can get at the store.

Maybe you are missing a date night out at a nice restaurant since many of them are closed or you miss taking the kids out for burgers. Maybe you just need to fill the freezer with some meat to get you through the next few weeks. A delivery of some high quality meat to your door can help you stay in but still have a restaurant quality meal at home. Here are a few of my favorite online meat sources:
1. Snake River Farms – Snake River Farms delivers some of the highest quality steaks and meat you will find. Their American Waguy beef is higher quality than you will find at most restaurants and will make even a simple weeknight dinner seem like an extravagant night out. And their hot dogs are a great option for the kids.
If you are missing a nice dinner out order up a couple nice ribeyes and have a date night at home after the kids go to bed. And so the kids don’t feel left out pick them up some awesome Snake River Farms hot dogs.
2. Porter Road – Porter Road has sustainably raised, high quality beef that ships fresh, not frozen. They butcher almost every day and dry age their meat for 14 days before shipping it out. And beyond beef they also have pork, chicken, and lamb. I would highly recommend their whole chickens. The taste difference between these birds and what you get at the store is very evident when you take your first bite. And a couple chickens can make multiple meals for your family.
Porter Road is also offering 20% off some of their “Stock Up” items like ground beef, sausages, short ribs, and more and they also offer free shipping on orders over $100. So you can get 14 lbs of some of the best ground beef you will ever eat shipped for $101. That works out to right around $7 per pound. This ground beef make some awesome burgers and is also great for tacos and any other recipe that calls for ground beef.
3. Wild Alaskan Company – Wild Alaskan Company ships wild caught salmon from Alaska direct to your door. Fish is a great way to break up the monotony of every day meals. Aside from being a great healthy option this salmon is delicious! I did a full review of Wild Alaskan Company you can check out.
4. Crowd Cow – Crowd Cow ships beef and other meats from small ranches and farms all around the country. They have a great selection of 100% grass fed meat as well as grain fed cattle as well. And if you really want to splurge their A5 Wagyu will be a real treat after being stuck at home for a couple weeks. Their chickens are pasture raised and are much tastier than what you will get at the grocery store.
And don’t forget if you need a drink or three Saucey can deliver wine, beer, and liquor to your door.

We all need to do our part to “flatten the curve” with this nasty virus. Staying at home is one thing most of us can and should do as much as we can. Check on your elderly neighbors and offer to make a grocery run for them. Order a couple extra steaks for them. Help out others however you can during this time.
I also have a few ideas how you can use food to help during this crazy time.
If you need any cooking recommendations or need to know how to prepare any of these cuts of meat you order please don’t hesitate to contact me. I have a ton of info up on Complete Carnivore but would also love to give you some more personal help.
And if you do venture out to get takeout from a restaurant please, please, please tip very well. The hospitality industry as a whole will take a huge hit over the next couple months and a few extra bucks here and there will really help the people making and serving our food.
