4th of July has just passed us and I am guessing many of you threw down a couple hot dogs over the weekend. Hot dogs are pretty much the perfect food for a backyard cookout and few people would turn down a good hot dog. Personally I love pretty much any hot dog that is just grilled , thrown in a bun, and covered in plain, yellow mustard and ketchup. I know I will get run out of town in some areas for the ketchup comment but we will talk about that another day (simple explanation: the higher the quality of the hot dog the less I want ketchup on it. For the standard, cheap grocery store frank let’s load that thing up with condiments).
Speaking of hot dogs, did you see that Matt Stonie upset Joey Chestnut at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest? 62 hot dogs and buns is pretty impressive and is probably more hot dogs than I will eat this year.
Anyway, back to the original question: What is better than a hot dogs? Let me give you two answers that are both correct: 1. Free hot dogs and 2. Hot dogs and steak.
Snake River Farms is running a promotion this week where for every Porterhouse, T-bone, or Cowboy Rib Chop you buy you get a free pack (1 lb) of Snake River Farms American Kobe Beef Hot Dogs. Use code NGM151 at checkout to get this awesome deal. These hot dogs normally sell for $15 per pack but they are completely free when you buy one of the above steaks. Buy 2 steaks, get to packs of dogs. Buy 12 steaks, get 12 packs of hot dogs. So it isn’t one pack per order but one pack PER STEAK.
How great of a deal is this? Well, first off, these steaks are much, much higher quality than what you would buy in the store and it isn’t even close. Let’s use the Cowboy Chop as an example. Earlier this week I was at the meat counter at my local store and they had some very nice looking ribeyes for $16.99 per pound for some pretty nice looking steaks. The Cowboy Chops are 2 lbs each so if you take the price of those (as low as $52 if you buy 8 of them) you are looking at right around $26 per pound. So yeah, they are more expensive than the grocery store of your local butcher shop. But take another $15 off the total price (the price of the hot dogs) and you are down to $18.50 per pound (The porterhouse gets down to about $16 per pound) so that is right about what you would spend at the local market for a good quality steak and the steaks from Snake River Farms are better quality. What a deal!!! 8 awesome steaks and 8 pounds of hot dogs should keep your grill busy for a couple weeks.
Are these hot dogs any good? Well, Men’s Journal recently listed them as one of the top 5 hot dogs you can buy. They described them as “meaty, full-bodied flavor and balanced spicing” which is pretty much what you want from a good hot dog. The Barbecue Bible shares them as the best hot dog available. These are very high quality hot dogs made from some of the best beef available.
So not only do you get one of the best hot dogs you will ever eat you also get some of the best steaks you will ever eat for not much more than you would spend at the local store for a decent quality steak.
Order some of these steaks from Snake River Farms today and get your free American Kobe hot dogs. Don’t forget to use the code NGM151 at checkout. And if you buy through my links I will make a few bucks that will go into my steak fund so I can buy more steaks to write about.
And if you want some inspiration check out the 40 Ways the World Makes Awesome Hot Dogs over at FoodRepublic.com. Not sure how they left out the New Jersey Ripper Dog (basically a deep fried hot dog) off that list but there are some good looking ideas there.
