It is the holiday season right now as I write this. People are searching everywhere for gifts for loved ones, friends, business associates, and family.
Something that has been a popular gift option that has seen a rise in popularity the past few years is subscription boxes. Like the Jelly of the Month club in Christmas Vacation a subscription box is the gift that keeps on giving. Rather than just receiving one gift the recipient will get a new box of goodies every month or two.
Meat subscription boxes are also great for families who enjoy quality meat. It is an easy way to keep your fridge and freezer full, have high quality meat ready for dinner and save you a trip to the grocery store.
Disclosure: This post is monetized with affiliate links. If you buy something through them I earn a commission which helps support this site and lets me buy more meat so I can write about it.
If you have a meat lover on your gift list or are looking for a monthly delivery of quality meat for your family here are a few meat subscription boxes they are sure to love:
Porter Road
Porter Road is a butcher out of the Tennessee area. They source their meat from local farms and have very high standards. All their animals are pasture raised and harvested and processed at their own facilities.
Porter Road has a few different subscription boxes available. They have a standard beef box (6 pounds of meat for $95) or a beef and pork box ($125 for 8 pounds). These boxes will contain a variety of cuts every month including steaks, sausages, ground meat, and so on.
If you want to know a bit more specifically what you are getting they have a few different options including a bacon box with 4 different types of bacon for $45 per month or a grill master box with some steaks, sausages, and hamburger patties for $70. You can select 3, 6, or 9 months for your gifting options as well.
I have eaten quite a few cuts from Porter Road and I have been very impressed. If you are looking for a great gift for a meat lover check out the different Porter Road Subscription Boxes.
Crowd Cow Subscription
Recently Crowd Cow started offering subscription boxes. Crowd Cow, if you aren’t familiar, is a marketplace for small ranches and farmers across the country to sell their high quality products. Their meat is all ethically raised and much of it is grass fed and pasture raised.
Crowd Cow currently offers 6 different subscription options ranging from $89 for 12 lbs of ground beef to $249 for ~21 ozs of Japanese Wagyu. All their subscriptions ship free as well.
The two boxes that intrigue me are the Farmers Market subscription box and the Steak Lovers subscription box.
The Farmers Market box for this month (pictured above) contains 2 10 oz grass fed NY strips, 3 lb rump roast and 2 lbs ground beef from Hutterian Farms (pasture raised, grain finished), 12 ozs thick cut bacon, 12 ozs hot Italian sausage, and 4 lbs pasture raised chicken from Pasturebird. That is 11.75 lbs of high quality meat for $129 ($4.12 per meal).
The Steak Lovers box has ~5 lbs of quality beef in every box. The box for this month has 2 12 oz grass fed, grass finished NY strips, 2 16 oz pasture raised, grain finished ribeyes, 2 10 oz chuck eye steaks, and a 4 oz A5 Kagoshima Wagyu petite striploin.
The boxes will change every month so if you like trying craft beef, pork, and chicken from different ranches and like mixing up grass fed, grass finished, grain finished, and Wagyu beef the Crowd Cow subscription boxes are a great option. I have been very pleased with everything I have had from Crowd Cow and will be giving one of these subscriptions a shot very soon.
You can select delivery every 2 weeks, every month, every 6 weeks, every 8 weeks, or every 12 weeks. If you really like variety sign up for the Steak Lovers box every 6 weeks and the Farmers Market box every 4 weeks or something like that. Give the Crowd Cow Subscription a try today.
Wild Alaskan Company Seafood Subscription
If you are a seafood fan give Wild Alaskan Company a try. They ship wild caught salmon and other fish directly to your door every month. Wild salmon has a much deeper, richer flavor than farmed salmon and is a great option if you are eating keto, Whole30, paleo, pescaterian, etc.
There are three different options to choose from: The Wild Salmon box contains all salmon (sockeye and coho), The Wild White Fish box has some wild caught whitefish like halibut and cod, and the Wild Combo box has salmon and whitefish. Read a full review of Wild Alaskan Company to see all my thoughts on this subscription.
A 12 pack (6 oz portions) starts at $131.88 (plus $9.95 shipping) and a 24 pack runs $224.76 and they throw in free shipping which works out to about $25 per pound. And with code 15OFF you can save $15 on your first order.
Subscribe to Wild Alaskan Company and try some great wild salmon. And don’t forget to use code 15OFF to save $15.
Butcher Box
Butcher Box has been around for a couple years and they specialize in grass fed beef. Most of their beef comes from farms around the United States but they also import some of their beef from Australia and New Zealand.
With Butcher Box you can select beef, pork, or chicken boxes or you can totally customize your box to include only the cuts you want. A standard mixed box of 24 meals runs $129 and you can select delivery every 30 or 60 days. All their orders ship free and for a limited time they are offering $40 off your first 2 boxes ($20 off each box) and free bacon in every box.
I personally am not a huge fan of Butcher Box but I have heard from others who are pleased with it. Most of the meat I got with my subscription was great but the steaks weren’t good at all. If 100% grass fed beef is important to you and the person receiving the gift a Butcher Box subscription could be a good option.
Grill Masters Club
If the meat lover on your gift list is a griller or a barbecue fan check out Grill Masters Club. Every month this subscription box will arrive with a full size bottle of sauce, a full size bottle of rub, some grilling accessories, wood chips, and other grilling related items. I received the one above and the sauce and rub that were included are now among my favorites. Not every box will be a home run but it is run trying new flavors and new products I wouldn’t normally try.
Grill Masters Club is available in a 1 month box for $32.95 but a 3 or 6 month subscription at $29.95 a month are the most popular options. Subscribe to Grill Masters Club today and if you want to read a more thorough review I have one here: Grill Masters Club review.
Snake River Farms
Snake River Farms doesn’t really have a subscription option but they do have a great selection of curated gift options. They currently have 38 different options ranging from $89 all the way up to $999.
These gifts range from a few simple steaks to some giant prime rib roasts or some American Wagyu cuts. If you are looking for a corporate gift for a bunch of clients you are sure to find a great option. These gift boxes are also great to give as family gifts. See all the Snake River Farms options here. There are currently some great savings over the price of buying all the item separate as well.
If you are one of those last minute gifters these subscription boxes are a great option because you can order them at any time, let the recipient know what they are getting, and then the boxes ship out once a month. Give one of these subscriptions as a gift or try one for yourself.
Jerky Gent
Let’s face it: it is tough to pull off munching on a steak at your desk for a snack. So sometimes you need something meaty for a snack and a subscription to Jerky Gent will do the trick. They sent me a box to test out and overall I was very impressed.
Each box comes with 4 bags of jerky (about 2 ozs each) and a meat stick. This isn’t the same jerky you get at the grocery store or the local gas station. This jerky comes from artisan jerky makers all around the country. You can select if you want mild/medium or hot/spicy and also choose traditional or non-traditional flavors. 3 of the 4 I received were excellent. The one on the left was good but the other three were delicious. One of them was made from brisket and another from tri-tip which are unusual cuts to use for jerky. The all had great textures and more complex flavors than your normal jerky.
A subscription starts at $28 and shipping is $3.95. That might sound expensive for 8-10 ozs of jerky but if you look around most good jerkys are $3 or more per oz. So the cost of this is pretty much in line with what you would pay buying everything separate. And the novelty of getting a new box of jerky with new flavors every month is pretty cool. Subscribe to JerkyGent today or give it as a gift.
